The concept for Lachine Canal Community Swimming Pool project arises from analyzing the site conditions. The linear park itself is very active and vibrant, and our proposal is a continuation of the park as well as providing a “slow-down” zone for the activeness. The two curves that make up the main form allows people to access the building through the middle entrance or simply provide a detour for their regular transit path. The prominent curve feature of the building is made of double-glazing curtain wall for people to have an outside-in experience. A school should have small places, large places, all sorts of secluded and semi-secluded places. Instead of approaching the design problem with creating massing models for programs, we started with what kind of experience we would like to create for the school kids. By doing this, a narrative based on circulation was constructed. Two stairs and a ramp are evenly distributed in the building, plus creating social spaces around the circulation systems for a more inclusive and engaging environment. by thinking about We also want This has led to the coloniality of knowledge and epistemic racism that inferiorises unschooled knowledge. The library is not only a place where you go and get books, it should also be a site of knowledge production. I am always struck by those silos’ crude structural beauty, but at the same time, troubled by the fact that most of them are in deteriorated state and have been abandoned since 1970s. Montreal has a deep-rooted industrial heritage. The grain silo became a symbol of that pinnacle era. However, these abandoned silos pose negative impact to the environment, contaminate the soil with its residue. Read through the Montreal Sustainable Plan 2016-2020 and TURCOT Development Plan, I understood the city of Montreal has a vision of investing into the green technology sector and TURCOT region plans on fostering its local economy by developing a system of employment and commerce for and by the community. Combining these two points, I did an independant study to propose a potential architectural solution for the abandoned silo. The main idea is to repurpose the machinery as a energy-waste circular system to achieve zero carbon emission.&nbsp; <img width="2550" height="3300" width_o="2550" height_o="3300" The newly implemented system in China rejects individual thinking and trains citizens to become what the government would consider being “rational” and “acceptable.” Since the citizens would be being closely watched via mobile devices and surveillance cameras. One is always on the receiving side. Therefore, the problem arises as to how could architecture act as an agent to foster discussion among citizens in the context of the urban night? This project is a response to the aforementioned policy and proposes a new housing scheme which defies the conventional standards of contemporary East Asian condominiums. It creates a space for discussion and thus encourages individual thinking. Learning from the typology of Beijing hutong, the project takes the characteristics of the vibrant vernacular housing and adapts them to the design of high-rise residential buildings.
